All that you Need to Know about Whale Watching

Los Cabos is a fabulous destination on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Mexico. It is an oasis in the middle of the desert that mixes up excellent views, from the calm ocean to the rocky mountains with warm and cozy weather.

You can do several activities when visiting Los Cabos; if you love adventure and explore the surroundings, you can find beautiful sites out of tourist brochures. However, if you want a quiet trip or your first visit and don't know where to start, you can take advantage of your time getting to know the city through Tours.

You can start by reading these blogs to know more details about what you can do on your vacation: Beginners Guide I and Magical Places in Baja Sur. But, one of the main activities that you should not miss is whale watching.

Cabo San Lucas is one of the most popular areas on marine species' migratory routes. Year after year, from December to March, it is possible to see hundreds of whales looking for warmer places and food in the Sea of Cortez. Among the most popular species, it is possible to find the Minke Whale, Gray Whale, Byrde Whale, Fin Whale, Humpback Whale, Gray Whale, Blue Whale, and Sei Whale.

However, one of the most popular you can see is the beautiful Humpback Whale; as a curious fact, they travel around 3,000 miles during the 10 or 12 months that their gestation lasts. Also, underwater, they produce fascinating sounds and songs.

Yes, possibly up to this point, you are already packing your suitcase, but you are missing something...

What is the best season to see whales in Los Cabos?

The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, known in Spanish as SEMARNAT, declares whale watching season from December 15th to April 15th. However, you can see some fins in the water in the first weeks of December. These months, the whales leave the arctic seas to look for food and give birth to their calfs in the Pacific Ocean.

Even nothing guarantees you will see them; there are more whales between January and February, so the chances to see them increase. Here is essential to talk about peak season and its equal peak prices. As a tip, you can travel on dates after the holidays, about February, or even approximately in the first weeks of April, when the weather in Los Cabos is warmer, but the prices keep low.

Tips

One of the most comfortable options is taking a Tour; it also is one of the benefits of the All-Inclusive Plan at Club Solaris. You can have transportation to and from your resort, food, drinks, and even photographs so that you won't forget the best moments.

It is essential to say that although your wishes to get too close are as great as the whales, each boat is only allowed to be at a certain distance, to not violate the whale's space. However, if you are lucky, the playful calves can approach the boats; if this happens, we only remind you, appreciate them with great affection and care.

There is an option that you can take if you prefer a personalized experience. Getting up early, you can take your breakfast in the exclusive Members' Buffet at 07:00 AM. Later, take the bus "Ruta del Desierto" or app transport to go to the dock in Cabo San Lucas. Once there you can talk with the people who offer its sightseeing transportation services.

Finally, do not forget to carry a backpack with water, sunscreen (preferably biodegradable), medicine for seasickness, a cap or hat, a towel, a light sweater, a light snack, and of course, your camera.

Enjoy your trip and take care of the environment so that when you fall in love with Los Cabos, you will find it more beautiful each time you return.
